The pair of athletes from the Vibram team dominated the first edition of the ascent from Laveno to Sasso del Ferro: 3.5 kilometres and 900 metres of altitude difference for an event of great spectacularity and tourist sporting appeal.

LAVENO, 8 July- Spectacular first Vertical Running race in Varese amidst rocks, mule tracks and endless panoramas. The 1st Vibram Vertikal Sass de Fer crowned the talented Swiss Roberto Delorenzi and the Basque athlete Ainhoa Lendinez Garate, both uphill race specialists of the Vibram team. Delorenzi covered the 3.5 km race, with an altitude difference of 900 metres, in 32’26”, ahead of Paolo Bonanomi (34’02”) and Luca Ponti (35’08”). Among the women, the domination of Ainhoa Lendinez Garate in 42’11” over Elisa Masciocchi (46’20”) and Elisabetta Digregorio (46’32”) More than one hundred athletes lined up at the starting line in the centre of Laveno, a few metres from the port. The Vertikal Sass de Fer then developed along the path at the base of the Funicular to the panoramic terrace of Poggio Sant'Elsa, from there to the finish line at the belvedere of the Sasso del Ferro (1,062 metres). At the top of Sasso del Ferro, after an authentic challenge to the force of gravity, the belvedere offered a breathtaking 360° view of Lake Maggiore, Val Grande, Monte Rosa and Campo dei Fiori. Lots of applause from the public on the ascent for the winners but also for all the participants who arrived behind the fastest athletes, in many cases from abroad and from outside the province.

Next commitment for 100% Anima Trail will be the organisation of the CAMPO DEI FIORI TRAIL event that on 23 September in Gavirate (VA) will award the title of Italian Trail Running Speciality Champion. The race, in its second edition, will attract the main Italian and foreign champions of the speciality for what promises to be one of the most interesting races at national level.
