Campo dei Fiori Mini Trail:
520 little runners in celebration!

Saturday 11 May 2024 - The Din Don Park prepared for the occasion by the volunteers of the Green World Malgesso, welcomed the extraordinary energy of the 520 young runners who coloured the park with joy and fun during the Campo dei Fiori Mini Trail.

An event born in 2016 thanks to the valuable contribution of the Teacher Iolanda Santafata which first promoted the initiative among its pupils in Oltrona and which today counts the adhesion of several schools (E. Curti di Gemonio; plesso Pedotti di Luvinate dell'I.C. Campo dei Fiori; San Benedetto di Voltorre e I. Molinari di Bardello of I.C. di Gavirate; Galilei and Canetta of I.C. Varese 3; Innocente Salvini of Cocquio Trevisago; Medaglie d'Oro of Corgeno; A. Manzoni of Malgesso) that increase year by year thanks to the word of mouth between teachers and the’unbridled enthusiasm of the little ones.

Boys aged between 6 and 11 who ran at breakneck speed and jostled each other to reach the finish line first. The challenge was divided by class and saw the fifth-graders start first and cover the one-kilometre course, a distance also covered by the youngest, who proved to be fierce from the start.

The non-competitive event featured the’Ultra Trail Runner Andrea Macchi, nicknamed “The Lynx of Gavirate” who personally rewarded each young athlete, sharing with them his passion for this outdoor discipline so widespread in our area. For the occasion, he took photos and greeted the young fans who have known him from previous editions and for the tour he made through the Varese schools together with his ‘fellow’ ultra trail runners Beatrice Colombo Gatti, Gaia Angelo Maltese and Barbara Frangi.

For the awards Davide Biganzoli, speaker of the event, called Walter Rossi president Campo dei Fiori Outdoor ASD; Emanuele Mondini President of the Gavirate Section of the Italian Alpine Club; Giuseppe Iocca Mayor of Bardello with Malgesso and Bregano; Massimo Parola Deputy Mayor of Gavirate; Massimo Pozzi of Marelli & Pozzi; Umberto Baldisseri President of the Proloco di Bardello with Malgesso and Bregano; Emilio Bellorini of Itas Assicurazioni.

The day was further enriched by numerous activities, such as the opportunity to ride the Il Pivione“ farm pony” for the “saddle christening” and the child make-up, whose proceeds were donated to the Onlus Charity In The World to support its solidarity projects.

The event was organised by the Campo dei Fiori Outdoor ASD in collaboration with the Italian Alpine Club, Gavirate section and with the logistical support of the Proloco of Bardello with Malgesso and Bregano. Sponsored by the Bardello Municipality with Malgesso and Bregano; benefited from the contribution of the Varese Chamber of Commerce e Varese Sport Commission; with the support of Marelli and Wells as Main Sponsor, together with ITAS Insurance, Ilpea, Elmec e Squirrel.
